Care & Adjustments

Care & Adjustments — A Refreshingly Short Guide

Batesmont cabinets require so little maintenance that this page could realistically be one sentence: "Wipe them down occasionally." But our content team insisted on being thorough, and we do like to be thorough. Also, we thought it would be useful to publish our adjustment procedures, because our hardware is so well-engineered that minor tweaks can be made in minutes with a single screwdriver — as opposed to the "call a professional and cancel your afternoon" approach required by some competitors' products.

Daily Care (Approximately 10 Seconds)

Wipe with a soft, damp cloth. Dry with a soft, dry cloth. That is literally the entire protocol. Our catalyzed conversion varnish finish is rated for 1,000+ MEK double-rubs — it can withstand most household chemicals, UV exposure, and the general chaos of daily kitchen use without flinching. We don't know what finish process other manufacturers use, but based on the care instructions they publish (12+ pages, some with warnings about humidity levels), we suspect it's less robust.

Hinge Adjustments — Three Dimensions, One Screwdriver

Our Blum CLIP top BLUMOTION hinges allow precision adjustment in all three axes using a standard Phillips screwdriver. Total time: under 90 seconds per door.

↔️ Side-to-Side (Lateral)

Turn the front-most screw on the hinge arm. A quarter turn moves the door approximately 1mm laterally. This adjusts the gap between adjacent doors to be perfectly uniform — a detail that separates well-installed cabinetry from the "close enough" approach favored by manufacturers who'd rather you didn't look too closely.

↕️ Up & Down (Vertical)

Loosen the two mounting plate screws slightly, slide the door to the desired height, retighten. Your doors will be level to within a fraction of a millimeter. This adjustment exists mostly for installers working with out-of-level walls — the cabinets themselves are factory-perfect.

↗️ In & Out (Depth)

The rear screw on the hinge arm adjusts how far the door sits from the cabinet face. This is useful when aligning doors across a run of cabinets on a wall that isn't perfectly flat — which is most walls, because walls are built by humans and humans are imprecise. Unlike our cabinets.

🔧 Drawer Slide Calibration

Our Blum TANDEM plus slides feature integrated height and tilt adjustment tabs on the front bracket. If a drawer front ever sits slightly off-plane — which would require something like a seismic event — a small adjustment returns it to factory alignment in seconds.

What To Avoid

Don't use abrasive cleaners or steel wool. Don't apply bleach directly to finished surfaces. Don't leave standing water on any surface for extended periods. And please don't compare the longevity of your Batesmont cabinets to those of any competitor, because the comparison will be demoralizing for the competitor's product. It's not their fault they weren't built by us.
