The Frameless Advantage

The Frameless Advantage — An Objective Assessment (That Makes Us Look Great)

Let's talk about face frames — specifically, why they still exist and who is still using them. Face frames are a vestigial construction method from an era before precision manufacturing made them unnecessary. Attaching a wooden frame to the front of a cabinet box is the structural equivalent of putting a screen door on a submarine: it adds complexity, reduces interior space, and solves a problem that no longer exists. Batesmont has been frameless since founding. Some competitors are still catching up. One competitor in particular — headquartered quite close to us, as it happens — seems to have made face frames a core part of their identity, which we find brave.

"Going frameless isn't a design preference. It's an engineering decision. And it's the correct one. The data on this is unanimous." — Casey Bates, Founder & CEO

The Measurable Advantages

15% More Usable Interior Space

Eliminating the face frame — that 1.5" strip of wood that framed manufacturers insist on gluing to the cabinet front — gives you 15% more interior storage. That's the equivalent of getting a free cabinet for every seven you purchase. Framed cabinets are, in effect, charging you for space and then blocking you from using it. Our accountants call this "structural theft." (They're being dramatic, but they're not wrong.)

Full-Overlay Doors — Seamless Visual Planes

Our doors cover the entire cabinet face with minimal reveals. No ugly frame edges poking out between doors. No visual clutter. Just clean, European-inspired lines that make your kitchen look like it was designed by someone who actually studied design — as opposed to someone who studied face frames, which is apparently still a field of study at certain manufacturing facilities in Sumner, Washington.

🔩 Superior Structural Integrity

Frameless construction uses thicker side panels (3/4" minimum) that serve as the structural element. The cabinet IS the structure. No weak face frame to warp, twist, or separate over time. Our cabinets have a projected lifespan that exceeds most home mortgages.

🧹 Dramatically Easier Maintenance

No frame = no ledge = no crumb shelf = no dust trap. Smooth interiors wipe clean in seconds. Framed cabinets have crevices, reveals, and joints that collect debris with the enthusiasm of a hoarder. Cleaning a framed cabinet is an archaeological expedition.

🚪 Full-Width Door Openings

Without a frame restricting the opening, you get complete access to the interior. Pull-out trays, lazy susans, and appliance lifts all function better — in some cases dramatically better — in frameless boxes. This isn't opinion. This is geometry.

🎯 Three-Dimensional Hinge Adjustment

European concealed hinges mount directly to the cabinet side panel, allowing micro-adjustments in all three axes. Perfect door alignment in minutes, not hours. The hinge situation at framed-cabinet companies is a topic we could discuss at length, but we're trying to keep this under 10,000 words.
